💼 Business Days Calculator

Count Monday-through-Friday days in a selected date range.

Select two dates.

How long is 3 business days?

Three business days usually means three Monday-through-Friday working days, not counting Saturday or Sunday. Public holidays may also be excluded, depending on the organization or deadline.

If the starting day itself is not counted, the usual results are:

Starting day3 business days later
MondayThursday
TuesdayFriday
WednesdayMonday
ThursdayTuesday
FridayWednesday

These examples assume there are no public holidays and that the starting day does not count as Day 1.

Do weekends count as business days?

Usually, no. Saturday and Sunday are generally excluded. That means 3 business days may span 5 calendar days when a weekend falls in the middle.

For example, if you start on Friday, the next three business days are Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

Do holidays count as business days?

Often they do not. Banks, government agencies, shipping companies, employers, and contracts may exclude recognized holidays. If a deadline is important, check the rule used by the organization that set it.

Is 3 business days the same as 72 hours?

No. Three business days and 72 hours are not the same thing. Seventy-two hours is a continuous time period that includes nights and weekends. Business days count working days instead.

Does the starting day count?

Often the starting day does not count when someone says “3 business days from today.” Counting usually begins with the next business day. However, wording and industry rules can differ, so confirm important deadlines.

Quick examples

  • 3 business days from Monday: usually Thursday.
  • 3 business days from Wednesday: usually Monday.
  • 3 business days from Friday: usually Wednesday.

What counts as a business day?

This calculator treats Monday through Friday as business days and includes both endpoints when they are weekdays.

Public holidays are not removed

Holiday calendars differ by country, state, employer, and institution. This simple version does not subtract public holidays, so adjust the result when a holiday falls inside the range.

3 business days from today

Three business days from today usually means counting the next three Monday-through-Friday working days and skipping Saturday and Sunday. Public holidays may also extend the period.

These examples assume today itself is not counted as Day 1 and there are no public holidays.

How long is 3–5 business days?

A 3–5 business day window usually means a task, shipment, transfer, or processing period may finish anytime between the third and fifth working day after the start date.

Because weekends are normally skipped, 3–5 business days can span roughly 3 to 7 calendar days, depending on the starting weekday and whether holidays occur.

Example: starting on Monday

If Monday is the starting day and is not counted, Day 3 is Thursday and Day 5 is the following Monday. So a 3–5 business day estimate would usually mean Thursday through the following Monday.

Example: starting on Friday

If Friday is the starting day and is not counted, Day 3 is Wednesday and Day 5 is Friday of the following week.

How long is 5 business days?

Five business days is usually one full Monday-through-Friday workweek. If the period starts midweek, the calendar span extends across a weekend.

  • 5 business days from Monday: usually the following Monday.
  • 5 business days from Wednesday: usually the following Wednesday.
  • 5 business days from Friday: usually the following Friday.

Why business-day estimates are ranges

Companies often use phrases such as “3–5 business days” because processing times vary. Day 3 is the earliest expected completion and Day 5 is the latest expected completion, assuming weekends and excluded holidays are not counted.
